Reviews for Mama's Bakery
Review highlights
Based on 439 reviewsMama's Bakery in Istanbul is widely praised for its authentic Russian and Ukrainian cuisine, offering a nostalgic taste experience that resonates strongly with both locals and visitors familiar with these flavors. Customers appreciate the cozy, Soviet-era inspired décor which enhances the dining atmosphere. Homemade dishes such as pelmeni, borsch, and traditional desserts receive consistent acclaim for their quality and taste. Service quality, however, shows some inconsistency, with occasional remarks about inattentiveness and table maintenance. While most guests find the environment clean and welcoming, minor critiques on food presentation and specific ingredient choices have been noted. Overall, Mama's Bakery is celebrated as a charming spot for those seeking genuine Eastern European comfort food in Istanbul.
The best place in Istanbul where you can find Russian and Ukrainian food. Taste of my childhood : pelmeni, olivie, seledka pod shuboy, sirniki Everything is just delicious And I loved the details of decor
It is an amazing place!!! All the meals are homemade and so tasty!!! I advise everyone to come here. The place is very clean, the service is very nice. It is a very cosy place!!! Всем советую!!! Очень атмосферно, уютно и вкусно!!!!
First time trying borsch soup with beef, it was great. Pelmeni (beef) was amazing. Bad service, you can't see the guy. He didn't clean the table, just changed the cloth.
great atmosphere, good food and service i ordered dressed herring salad, okroshka, medovik and tea. I wish herring salad has another mayo since this one is not classy post soviet union mayo, as well as the fish inside - i wish it would be more juicy. Okroshka’s veggies were cut very thin, so it’s quite hard to feel what vegetables you’re eating. Medovik was ok. But the tea! They serve it very beautiful manner! I loved it!
As a norwegian who has completely fallen in love with the Russian kitchen, this place was a godsend while staying in Istanbul. They have all the dishes that you would expect them to have, and they’re all delicious. The interior is cozy and reminiscent of the style from the Soviet era, which gives the place an added layer of authenticity. The staff and owner are very nice, and made our two visits nothing but pleasant. This is definitely the best restaurant I went to in Istanbul.
Such delicious food! I had the syrniki and khinkali, both were very tasty. Definitely going back to try more items on their menu!
We came with a big group, first the ambiance is lovely like an old grandma’s house, took me back to my childhood right away. Very nice touch - russian candy and sushki on the table, smth to nibble on while you wait for the food. Music was weird yes, would be so much nicer to play russian retro or smth like that. Service was, well, Russian. No one smiled, waiters looked bored and unbothered, the calling button on the table did not work so we had to go out under the rain to call for a waiter (we were seated in a room with separate entrance). Now the food, shuba (herring) was a huuuge disappointment. Who cuts ingredients in cubes for this salad?? Its always shared everywhere in Russia. So the salad melts in your mouth with delicious mixed flavors. This was just cubes mixed together.. Mimosa salad was good. Borsch everyone loved. Pelmeni were ok, like average, but they have sooo many varieties! Like almost any variety there is which was nice. Served with delicious sour cream. The star of the place was the Medovik cake. Absolutely sensational. Napoleon cake was excellent as well. We were missing some nice russian tea like Ivan chai or herbal Tayezhniy sbor. Oh! Kompot and cranberry mors were lovely. Overall its a good decent place for immigrants who miss homecooked or stolovka food. * its very vegetarian friendly btw
